NWWA: Draw The Line - (Belated) Live Review

By Nathan P Hunt

Company: New Wave Wrestling Alliance
Venue: Victoria Baths, Manchester
Date: 27th June 2015

NWWA returned to the architectural beauty of Victoria Baths for their second ever show, boasting a showcase of some of the best talent from around the U.K. Doubling as a slightly underwhelming family fun day, with stalls, face painting and a bouncy castle, the actual show itself promised to be a quality event and was certain to deliver.

Joey Hayes Vs ‘The Righteous’ Joseph Conners was beyond a strong opener, it was one of the highlights of a well rounded & enjoyable card. Both extremely talented performers played their respective roles well, had chemistry & their match was solid throughout. Lana Austin's match with Leah Owens was good overall & the two overcame some timing issues with well executed offense and a crowd-pleasing story. Unfortunately Owens landed on my foot when taking a bump into the first row, so I must apologise if that in any way counts as outside interference... The Hunter Brothers had a decent, entertaining bout with Danny Hope and Sexy Kev, while the entertainment level was high again later in the show for Dave Rayne's outing with Matt Myers. Rayne's bodyguard, Big T Justice, ran interference on behalf of his employer effectively and often, playing his role convincingly. Jack Jester & Martin Kirby's match started slowly but turned into another highlight of the show. Varied action peppered with some light comedy, the contest garnered some of the louder reactions of the show. British Wrestling legend Marty Jones was on hand for the event, observing from the sidelines for the most part along with fellow legend Gypsy John Kenny, before coming out to the ring to speak about the British wrestling scene. He then sat with Magic Mark and Frankie Sloan at the commentary table for the main event between Nathan Cruz and El Ligero. Cruz and Ligero worked as well as you would expect, concluding the show with a dramatic performance and telling a good story. Jones even took a bump and played a role in the outcome of the back-and-forth battle, adding a high stakes feel and big match dimension to an already worthy main event.

The historic building was an ideal venue and will continue to be so as the company grows. Pulling a decent crowd for the promotions second ever show, the family friendly atmosphere makes this a welcome addition to the local scene. The crowd were interested and responsive from the outset, which helped the show overall and the promotion has a professional and organised feel. A great show which is certainly suitable for the whole family, the company will no doubt grow in leaps and bounds if they can sustain the quality of this early outing.
